Patrice Tiedemann and Jena Eison
perform Madama Butterfly highlights
October 2002 - Nauset Regional High School

Since 1997 Cape Cod Opera has taken live classical vocal music to Cape schools at no cost, 2001 saw the expansion of the program to the senior population. Highlights of the current production are presented by the principals, who give an overview of their roles and a translation of their arias. After the performance there is a question and answer session. Questions range from "Do you have to speak the language you are singing in?" "Do you have a day job?" to "What size shoes do you wear?" The overall response from the students is very positive.

Cape Cod Opera encourages participation in productions: The Japanese house in Madama Butterfly was built by students of the Cape Cod Technical High School in Harwich. The set was subsequently adapted for use in Die Fledermaus. Students have also appeared on stage and have helped backstage.

Students and seniors respond to Cape Cod Opera's
outreach performance.

"I really enjoyed listening to the singers.
They made the story come alive."

"Just great! A wonderful way to involve kids."

"Great fun! Please visit us again next year."

"I wasn't sure I would like opera, but you made it real."

Cape Cod Opera speakers also present various opera music and lecture programs to senior groups on the Cape.
